First rtx1 retinal camera installation in Australia
Perth, WA, Australia and Orsay, France, July 11th, 2014. For the first time in Australia, Imagine Eyes installed an rtx1 Adaptive Optics Retinal Camera at the Lions Eye Institute in Perth (WA). Associate Professor Fred Chen at the institute’s Retinal Imaging Clinic decided to acquire the rtx1 in early 2014, soon after the device received the ARTG clearance. The rtx1 now enables performing retinal examinations at cellular and microvascular levels in a wide variety of patients at the Lions Eye Institute.
Pr Chen has planned to implement the rtx1 in a number of research projects, including the MacTel program as well as investigations in the Stargardt disease, geographic atrophy and nanosecond laser therapy for retinal drusen. Other doctors in the same clinic will also be using the adaptive optics system for research in genome wide association studies, retinal vein occlusion, uveitis and retinal dystrophy. In order to acquire Australia’s first unit, Dr Chen secured funding from various sources including donations from patients, research subsidies granted to retinal clinicians, the Australian Foundation for the Prevention of Blindness, the University of Western Australia and the Lions Eye Institute. The device was imported to Australia by Imagine Eyes’ representative in Perth, IQMedical. To learn more about the Lions Eye Institute in Perth and about Pr Chen’s research, click here
