The rtx1 adaptive optics (AO) retinal camera  provides a quick procedure for detecting disease progression or regression at the cellular scale.

With the new AOimage 3.4 software for rtx1, follow-up AO examinations take less than a minute. Within this short time, AO images acquired at different visits are automatically aligned with micrometer precision. Longitudinal changes become detectable early, at the level of individual cells.
